An Army officer at the UK’s biggest base in Afghanistan has hit on a novel way of getting around more suited to the big top than a battlezone.
He explained how single-track minds run in his family.
“When I was twelve, my dad was going through a bit of a mid life crisis and bought a unicycle.”
“I thought, anything he can do….getting out to Bastion was a bit difficult. I had to strip it down and strap the wheel to my Bergen.”
“It’s not too bad on the road. It’s not really a rough-terrain vehicle, so I haven’t done anything off road – that’s for the next few months.”
As well as providing plenty of entertainment, his mount which has neither brakes nor gears is the perfect low maintenance transport for desert conditions.
